Monel for Jewelry Materials?
Some of my fellow jewelry makers love eyepins and headpins made of monel materials. They claim that the material won’t get corrosion and rusted over time.
However, from what I’ve read monel is created by combining zinc and nickel and nickel is known to cause allergy to jewelry users.
It’s kind of strange realizing this fact, the gemstore keepers always warn the buyers not to buy nickel contained findings but at the same time they suggest using monels.
For me, I’d rather use metal, brass, or sterling silver findings that contain no nickel.
